I'm sure every writer has their favorites. Here are my top picks:

Adventures in the Screen Trade - William Goldman

Yep, we've all read it. This book is my #1 choice.

Screenwriting - Richard Walter (UCLA)

Probably the second best book I've read on the subject - and I've read plenty. You might want to check out Richard's seminars as well.

Getting the Words Right - Cheney

It's not about screenwriting per se, but it sure is a useful tome when it comes to editing (read cutting) your words.

The Art of Dramatic Writing - Lajos Egri

Not what I'd call easy going, but useful stuff none the less.

Making Movies - Sidney Lumet

Packed with insider knowledge.
